General Motors plans to purchase electric vehicle batteries from China for its upcoming entry-level electric vehicle until U.S.-made batteries from its partnership with LG Energy Solution become available. General Motors expects to source batteries for the Chevrolet Bolt EV from overseas lithium iron phosphate battery suppliers by 2027. Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) will supply these batteries, and production of the Bolt EV is scheduled to begin later this year.
