Qingtao Energy's innovations in materials and processes have provided strong support for cost control in SAIC's MG4 semi-solid-state battery. Qingtao utilizes a manganese-based approach, employing a combination of lithium manganese oxide and lithium iron manganese phosphate for its cathodes. These raw materials are both inexpensive and abundant. Furthermore, Qingtao is investing in dry-process cathode production, which is more energy-efficient, simpler, and easier to scale than the traditional wet process.
