In November 2020, the L4 level autonomous driving heavy truck software and hardware system was demonstrated. In December 2020, the Pony.ai business unit was established and operated independently. The L4 autonomous driving truck was driven on the Beijing-Taipei Expressway. This is also the first time that China has tested autonomous driving trucks on a real highway where policies allow. In April 2021, the freight road transport business license issued by the Nansha District Transportation Bureau of Guangzhou was officially obtained, and commercial operations have been carried out. The Pony.ai Truck Business Unit reached a cooperation with the Commercial Vehicle Control System Business Unit of ZF. In July 2021, Pony.ai obtained the Beijing Autonomous Driving Truck Test License and Highway Test Permit. In August 2021, the Pearl River Delta-Yangtze River Delta Expressway Trunk Transport Cooperation Verification Project was officially launched. The one-way distance is about 1,400 kilometers. It is the first long-distance autonomous driving trunk transport verification project in China. Starting in 2022, a smart logistics fleet will be built, and more than 100 smart trucks will join the logistics service. In November 2022, Pony.ai officially released the third-generation autonomous driving truck hardware and software integration system, which has been first applied to the first autonomous driving heavy-duty truck product jointly created by Pony.ai and Sany Heavy Truck. It was produced by Yiji Smart Truck, a joint venture company established by the two parties, and the first batch of smart trucks was delivered to Qingzui Logistics on the same day.
