The history and future of SAIC Volkswagen Nanjing Plant

SAIC Volkswagen's Nanjing plant was originally part of Nanjing Automobile. In 2007, SAIC successfully acquired Nanjing Automobile and the Nanjing plant was used by SAIC Volkswagen. In 2008, it was officially listed as SAIC Volkswagen's first plant outside Shanghai. The plant currently has more than 2,000 employees and produces models including Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Superb, etc. However, in the face of declining sales and changes in the market environment, SAIC Volkswagen is considering closing the Nanjing plant or selling it.
