Infineon Technologies recently announced that they have successfully developed the world's first 300mm (12-inch) gallium nitride wafer product and plan to demonstrate it at this year's Munich Electronics Show. According to data provided by Infineon, the number of 300mm GaN wafers has increased by 2.3 times compared to 200mm wafers, significantly improving wafer utilization. In terms of production process, Infineon's 300mm GaN is grown on a 300mm silicon substrate, which helps to effectively utilize existing production resources while also effectively reducing the cost of GaN. Infineon Technologies expects that as technology advances, the cost of 300mm GaN will gradually become equal to that of silicon. The product will be produced at Infineon's Villach plant in Austria, which began producing 300mm silicon-based products in 2021. Infineon Technologies predicts that the gallium nitride market will continue to grow in the future, and the market size is expected to reach billions of dollars by 2030.
