LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI accelerate mass production of 4680 batteries

LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI are accelerating the mass production of 4680 batteries and plan to supply them to Tesla by the end of the year. LG Energy Solution may achieve mass production earlier than Samsung SDI. LG Energy Solution plans to start trial production of 4680 batteries in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province in August this year and achieve mass production by the end of the year. It is reported that the first batch of 4680 batteries produced by LG Energy Solution will be directly supplied to Tesla. Samsung SDI plans to start mass production of 46 series cylindrical batteries in early 2025, more than a year ahead of the original plan. At present, Samsung SDI has established a production line at its factory in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, and has submitted prototype products to major customers such as General Motors for testing.
