Rohm Semiconductor, a well-known Japanese electronic component manufacturer, plans to deepen its cooperation with TSMC, a world-leading semiconductor foundry, and will outsource the production of gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductors required for electric vehicles (EVs) to TSMC. Due to the slowdown in global electric vehicle market demand, Rohm Semiconductor expects to face a net loss of 6 billion yen in 2024. In order to improve investment efficiency, Rohm decided to focus on the research and development of automotive GaN power semiconductors, and hand over the production process to TSMC.
