U.S. House Republicans reject proposal to avert government shutdown

In the U.S. House of Representatives, Republicans, under pressure from Musk's continuous postings and Trump, voted down a proposal by House Speaker Mike Johnson to avoid a government shutdown on the 18th. In order to avoid a government shutdown, House Republicans subsequently proposed a streamlined spending bill, which was cut from more than 1,500 pages to 116 pages.
