Renesas Electronics plans to mass produce SiC power semiconductors in 2025

Renesas Electronics plans to start mass production of SiC power semiconductors in 2025. This decision is made in response to the growing demand for SiC power semiconductors with excellent energy-saving performance brought about by the popularization of electric vehicles (EVs). Renesas Electronics will use the 6-inch wafer production line of its Takasaki plant for production, which currently produces silicon-based power semiconductors. Renesas Electronics announced its plan to enter the SiC power semiconductor market in November 2022, and this is the first time that it has clearly stated its investment strategy.
