Toyota plans to build a new electric vehicle factory in Shanghai

Toyota Motor Corporation announced that it will wholly own a new electric vehicle factory in Shanghai, China, mainly producing its luxury brand "Lexus" models. It is reported that the factory is expected to start operation around 2027 and will mainly sell Lexus cars to the Chinese market. Although Lexus China did not comment on the news, Toyota's move marks a major shift in its business in China.
