Nissan and Honda officially announce merger talks, aiming to create the world's largest automobile company

On December 23, Japan's two largest automakers, Nissan and Honda, officially announced that they have officially entered the merger negotiation stage. Their goal is to achieve total sales of 30 trillion yen (about 191 billion US dollars) and operating profit of more than 3 trillion yen. It is expected that the merger will be negotiated around June 2025 and a holding company will be established by August 2026. During this period, Nissan's partner Mitsubishi Motors will decide whether to join the merger by the end of January 2025.
